Mango Chili Chocolate Brownies Recipe

  • 1 1/4 cups semi sweet chocolate chips - divided
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped mango
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds, optional
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp ancho chile pepper or a little cayenne pepper ( do NOT use chili powder - that's got garlic in it!)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8" square pan and dust it with cocoa powder. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips in a sauce pan and pour into bowl. Stir in chocolate syrup, butter, vanilla, mango pieces, and eggs. Stir in almonds. In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, and pepper together. Mix into the chocolate and add 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Pour into pan and bake 45 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes.

Here's the chocolate bar that inspired the recipe - it was spicy and deliciously different. We found it at the Cost Plus World Market, but it's also available from Amazon.

I am 55 years old and just baked my first cake. I have great admiration for Connor and his ability to experiment in the kitchen. Baking scares me. We have had these brownies and they are wonderful. Kudos to Connor!
