Double Knit Fabric Strip Bag
Another bag made by knitting fabric strips - this time using the double knit you can achieve on a Knifty Knitter long loom or a double rake knitting loom. The texture of this is wonderfully squishy and I've added an extra long braided strap to let the bag hang from one shoulder to the opposite hip.
The two fabric strip skeins for this project were a variegated blue which reminded me of my favorite fabric - denim. I'd already done a bag using a "circular knit" around the outside of the small Knifty Knitter long loom and wanted to try the double knit.
- Use the long tail cast-on method to get the project started on the loom.
- Using the double knit wrapping pattern shown in the Knifty Knitter instructions, make a panel three times as long as you want the purse to be high. I've also found this stitch pattern to be called the zig zag figure eight wrap on the Loom Knitting Help website.
- Use the bind-off technique described in the Knifty Knitter instructions or use the knit bind-off to remove it from the loom.
- Fold the panel approximately into thirds so that it has a nice big flap and using another piece of the fabric strip, sew up the two sides of the purse.
- Cut 18 pieces of the fabric strip into equal lengths for the braided strap. They will need to be quite a bit longer than you want your strap, though I can't tell you how much. I just divided what I had left from the purse and hoped it would be enough.
- Divide the strap pieces into three bundles of six and braid them.
- Attach the strap to the purse with another piece of fabric strip.
- Lay the purse on a piece of doubled fabric and cut out a liner that's slightly larger than the purse.
- Sew up the two sides of the liner fabric.
- Push the liner into the purse and fold down the top edge of the liner. Attach it to the purse using thread and tiny hidden stitches.
- Attach a decorative button to the front flap.

Great job on the website. I am passing the info on to friends and family, people who have liked my bag and enjoyed the raclette dining. Compliments to crafty Kirstin!
